Scottie Scheffler off to solid start in Masters opening round

Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-Imagn Images Defending champion Scottie Scheffler was off to a good start during the first round of the Masters, which began Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
Scheffer, the world's No. 1 golfer, was at 3 under through 14 bogey-free holes, while three golfers from England were among those with solid starts to the round.
England's Tyrrell Hatton was 4 under through 13 holes, while fellow countrymen Justin Rose and Aaron Rai have been among the early leaders.
Rai was at 4 under through eight holes, but he finished with a 2-under 70. When Rai completed his round, Rose had yet to make the turn and was at 4 under.
Canada's Corey Conners was the leader in the clubhouse with a 4-under 68. He countered a lone bogey at No. 4 by carding birdies at par-5 holes at Nos. 2, 8 and 15 as well as at par-4 holes at 17 and 18 to finish the round/
Rai and Harris English, also at 2 under, were supplanted as clubhouse leaders.
Jason Day was on the back nine at 2 under through 15.
Some golfers were just about to begin their rounds with afternoon tee times.
The day began with ceremonial tee shots from past champions Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson.
