The Seattle Seahawks will travel for an East Coast matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sunday night. The Seahawks have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season, entering this game with a 5-2 record. The Commanders own a 3-5 record, although they’ve dealt with key injuries throughout the season.

Washington doesn’t feature an impressive defense, and they’re bad by several metrics. They rank 29th in the NFL in yards allowed (5.9) per play, 20th in points allowed (.393) per play, and 26th in opponent red zone touchdown rate (64.3%). The Commanders are giving up 24.8 points per game this season.

Their defense has been an issue everywhere, though. They’re giving up a league-high 8.4 yards per pass attempt through eight games. They’ve been better against the run, but they’re still an average defense, allowing 4.4 yards per carry this season.

Arguably, the biggest key here is that Washington’s struggled to consistently get pressure on opposing quarterbacks, regardless of the pressure they send. They rank 12th in the NFL in blitz rate (25.1%) this season. They also only rank 14th in pressure rate (20.9%).

Sam Darnold has found success in most situations this season, but he’s an incredible quarterback when the pocket is clean. He’s averaging a ridiculous 10.3 yards per attempt in a clean pocket this season. He’s also thrown 7 touchdowns with only 2 interceptions in that situation.

Seattle isn’t a one-dimensional offense, though. They have found drastically more success throwing the ball, leading the NFL with 9.0 yards per attempt. That said, they rank second in the league in rushing play percentage (49.6%) this season. Although the Seahawks haven’t found a ton of success on the ground, defenses have to prepare for a balanced offense.

The other potential concern is that this will be a road game for Seattle. They’ve been drastically better at home this season, and that isn’t surprising. This is a Sunday night game, though, meaning it won’t have the same impact as traveling East for an early game.

Washington has an offense that can put pressure on Seattle and force them to score throughout this game. I generally don’t love shifting odds this much, but I prefer the 3 touchdowns and 1 field goal with other routes to hit.

I only post one bet for this article, but you can add another bet to bring the odds closer to even for a 2-man parlay.
