Now Johnson will follow Durant as players who spent just one year with the Longhorns before entering the NBA.
Johnson, the Southeastern Conference's freshman of the year, announced Tuesday he declaring for the draft.
The 6-foot-6 guard led the SEC in points per game (19.9) -- just the sixth freshman to lead the conference in that category -- and minutes per game (34.7) while also averaging 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists. He shot 39.7 percent from 3-point range, good for second in the conference.
Against Arkansas on Feb. 26, Johnson tallied 39 points to break Durant's program record for most points by a freshman in a game.
Johnson helped Texas finish with a 19-16 record, losing to Xavier in the First Four portion of the NCAA Tournament.
