Second Construction Worker In Four Months Dies At New 49ers Stadium
A truck driver was killed early this morning at Levi's Stadium, scheduled to open next fall as the new home of the 49ers. The man died after being crushed by rebar he was unloading, according to the contractor. It's the second jobsite fatality in four months.
Construction was shut down for the day after the accident. The 49ers issued a brief statement:
"The 49ers organization learned this morning that an accident occurred involving a driver as he delivered materials to the stadium. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers affected by this tragedy."
Back in June, mechanic Donald White was killed when he was struck by an elevator counterweight. No citation was issued in that case because White was found solely responsible for the accident.
