Second Sample Confirms Jon Jones's Failed Drug Test At UFC 214
Photo Credit: Sean M. Haffey/ [object Object] Three weeks after news broke that Jon Jones had tested positive for the anabolic steroid Turinabol just before defeating Daniel Cormier at UFC 214, a second urine sample from the weekend of the fight has confirmed the original result.
The USADA, which serves as the UFC’s anti-doping partner, confirmed today that Jones’s “B” sample was tested and came up positive for Turinabol, just as the first one had. There has not yet been any official announcement on whether Jones will be suspended or if his win over Cormier will be vacated, but he stands to be suspended for up to four years and have his title stripped. He will have the chance to appeal any suspension.
If Jones has to vacate the title, it would be the third time he’s done so—first losing the light heavyweight title after arrested on felony hit-and-run charges in April 2015 and then after losing his interim title in November 2016 after being caught taking off-brand Cialis pills.
Jones very well may be fucked now—but to the extent that he is, so is the UFC.
