Mandatory Credit: Marc DesRosiers-IMAGN Images Fabian Zetterlund scored with 2:22 remaining to lift the host Ottawa Senators to a 4-3 win against the Washington Capitals on Thursday.
Zetterlund scored on a one-timer from just below the left hash marks after receiving a backhand pass from Thomas Chabot on the rush, shortly after Aliaksei Protas had tied the game for Washington.
Nick Jensen, Ridly Greig and David Perron also scored for the Senators, who had lost three straight (0-2-1) after winning four in a row. Shane Pinto had two assists, and Leevi Merilainen made 26 saves.
Tom Wilson scored his fifth goal in three games and added an assist for the Capitals, who were coming off a 6-3 win against the New York Rangers on Wednesday. Justin Sourdif had two assists, and Logan Thompson made 28 saves.
Wilson, who had scored two goals in each of his past two games, gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead at 8:13 of the first period when he knocked in a rebound from in front of the crease.
Dylan Strome made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 18:59. He received a cross-ice pass from Ryan Leonard, skated down the slot from the center point and beat Merilainen with a wrist shot.
The Senators pulled within 2-1 at 7:42 of the second period. Jake Sanderson's shot bounced off the cross bar to Jensen, who scored on a wrist shot from the right circle.
Greig tied it 2-2 at 19:31, scoring during a scramble in front as Thomspon lost sight of the puck and pushed it in with his pad.
Perron put the Senators up 3-2 at 2:47 of the third period, scoring far side on a one-timer from below the right circle off a pass from Stephen Halliday.
The Senators appeared to increase the lead to 4-2 at 5:42, but the goal was waved off because Pinto pushed Thompson's pad, which was on the puck, into the net.
Protas tied it 3-3 at 15:53. Wilson got to the puck along the boards and passed to Sourdif in the right circle and he fed Protas, who scored on a wrist shot from the slot.
