Sounders bring back GK Stefan Frei for 13th season

Mandatory Credit: Mark Smith-Imagn Images The Seattle Sounders are bringing back goalkeeper Stefan Frei for his 13th season after re-signing the 39-year-old free agent on Monday to a deal that runs through June 2027.
Frei has posted 134 clean sheets in 422 appearances across all competitions for Seattle since 2014.
The native of Switzerland recorded eight shutouts in 26 MLS regular-season starts during the 2025 campaign.
"He is a Sounders legend who has been at the heart of some of the biggest moments in our history and he continues to set the standard with his leadership and professionalism," Sounders general manager and chief soccer officer Craig Waibel said.
"Stef understands what it means to wear this badge and he brings a presence that lifts the entire group. We're proud to keep him in Seattle and look forward to what he'll continue to bring to the team."
Including his time with Toronto FC (2011-13), Frei is the only player to win an MLS Cup, Supporters' Shield, US Open Cup, Canadian Championship, CONCACAF Champions Cup and Leagues Cup.
