The amount of the transfer fee was not disclosed. Bernal, 27, signed a three-year deal with the Spirit and will occupy an international roster slot.
"Rebeca is an exceptional talent in both the defending and attacking phases of the game," Spirit general manager Mark Krikorian said. "We expect her dynamic style of play to provide an immediate impact as we kick off this season with high expectations."
Bernal spent the past eight seasons with the Liga MX Femenil side, appearing in more than 250 matches.
"Blessed and ready. It's one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, and it's going to be a challenging but rewarding experience," Bernal said. "I'm excited to get to Washington, play alongside great players and work with a world-class organization like Washington Spirit."
Bernal made her international debut with Mexico in 2017 and has collected seven goals in 65 appearances.
