The Cardinals Were Dumb Enough To Pitch To Christian Yelich Again
How did they not learn? One day after Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich smacked three taters and dropped seven RBI on them in a 10-7 win, the St. Louis Cardinals chose to pitch to him again. Why, idiots?...
Christian Yelich Has Been A Human Fireball Against The Cardinals
When Christian Yelich homered in the first four games of the season, all of which were against the St. Louis Cardinals, it was a fun curio—a hot streak carried over from the Brewers right fielder’s MVP season last year and a great player being great in an unusual way. Gabe Fernandez even wrote about...
Christian Yelich Is On Pace To Hit 162 Dingers This Season
It’s easy to make a wisecrack like this article’s headline on Opening Day, when a player smashes one out of the park to begin the season. But when that statement still rings true by the time game four rolls around, the dad joke goes from silly to pretty damn special. ...
Vile Cardinals Thwarted By Lorenzo Cain's Game-Ending Dong-Robbery
Opening Day, baby! Many good teams—the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Phillies, the Astros, the A’s—looked impressive; certain lousy teams—looking straight at you, Orioles—looked inept in a way that is possible to find charming in the very first game of the year. But wherever your team fell in all of thi...
Brewers Improve Team Through Novel Strategy Of Spending Money On Talented Player
After a long, icy stretch in which the most noteworthy signing was probably Troy Tulowitzki, the hot stove finally flashed some sparks on Wednesday night, as the Milwaukee Brewers got out their checkbooks to pick up a top-notch free agent. Former Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal is moving...
Yasiel Puig Homered, Crotch-Chopped, And Enjoyed Himself In Game 7
With his go-ahead two-run homer in Game 7, Cody Bellinger was a deserving NLCS MVP, but Yasiel Puig ribbed him for a perceived snub....
Craig Counsell Pulled His Game 5 Starter After One Batter, On Purpose
Left-handed pitcher Wade Miley appeared to be the Brewers’ starter for Game 5 of the NLCS today. And technically, he was. But after Miley gave up a lead-off walk in the first, Brewers manager Craig Counsell immediately went out to the mound and gave Miley the hook, replacing him with the right-hande...
Manny Machado's Wonderful Slide Finally Puts Everyone To Bed
The Dodgers scored a run in the first inning of tonight’s NLCS Game 4, and then the Brewers matched them with a run in the fifth, sending starter Rich Hill to go terrorize some Halloween treats in the dugout. And then, in a bizarre occurrence only rarely seen at a baseball game, a temporary black ho...
Manny Machado Probably Kicked Jesús Aguilar's Ankle On Purpose
Manny Machado is back in the postseason spotlight for the wrong reasons. In the bottom of the 10th, the Dodger hit a grounder to shortstop for what should have been a routine out at first. Machado decided to break the routine by kicking Brewers infielder Jesús Aguilar in the ankle after he was calle...
Cody Bellinger Celebrates Impressively Athletic Catch With Swan Dive Slide
The Dodgers are currently trying to knot up this series against the Brewers at two games apiece in extra innings, and Cody Bellinger is doing everything in his power to make sure his team comes away with the win. In the top of the 10th, Lorenzo Cain looked like he got a leadoff hit off of Los Angele...
Orlando Arcia Is Hilarious
It was amusing when Brewers shortstop Orlando Arcia, one of the very worst regular-season hitters in the league and a guy Milwaukee sent to the minors multiple times in 2018, guided them to a Game 163 victory over the Cubs with four hits. What he’s done since then is downright hysterical....
The Dodgers Are Pulling The Plug On Yasmani Grandal After Nightmarish Game 3
Yasmani Grandal has been having an absolutely terrible postseason for the Dodgers, batting .136 through seven playoff games. But the Game 3 shutout against the Brewers was a tipping point for fans and manager Dave Roberts. At the post-game press conference, Roberts announced that backup catcher Aust...
Manny Machado Had Some Questionable Slides Against The Brewers
As expected, Manny Machado’s return to the postseason was not without some controversial antics from the All-Star infielder. It all got started in the bottom of the second inning when Cody Bellinger grounded into what appeared to be a double play, but turned into a fielder’s choice because Brewers s...
Brewers Reliever Brandon Woodruff Bonked A Huge Dinger Off Clayton Kershaw
Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff took over for Gio Gonzalez in the third inning of tonight’s NLCS opener, presumably to get through the Dodgers lineup a few times. He aced the third inning, and the promptly sent a Clayton Kershaw fastball 407 feet out to center field for a towering donger....
The Brewers Have Played This All Perfectly
There is no one way to build a really good baseball team. Historically, the innovative Just Spend As Much Money As Needed On The Best Players Available model has a pretty solid track record, but even longtime adherents of that approach have recently backed away from it due to ... well, we can probab...
The Rockies' Playoff Run Was A Four-Game Whimper
If anyone thought that the Colorado Rockies’ extra-innings victory in the wild-card game portended more exciting playoff action to come, those people were dead wrong. All that was true about that 2-1 win against the Cubs remained true throughout Colorado’s three-game sweep at the hands of the Milwau...
Adam Ottavino Overthought It
During the regular season, Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino worked 36 at-bats to an 0-2 count. Hitters went 0-36 against him in those situations, and 31 of them ended up as strikeout victims. It’s hard to understand, then, how this happened:...
Hernan Perez Went On A Gatorade Odyssey And Got The Wrong Guy Anyway
The vagaries of walk-offs and crowd dynamics meant that when Mike Moustakas singled in Christian Yelich to win Game 1 for Milwaukee, the dugout chased Moustakas, eventually settling in right-center field, where the Brewers jumped, slapped, and celebrated. One problem with that: It’s a long way to go...
Brewers' Big Name Acquisitions Come Through In Game 1 Walk-Off Win
The Brewers got nine innings of excellent pitching in a 10-inning game, and won on a walk-off single in extras from Mike Moustakas, to grab Game 1 of their NLDS matchup with the Colorado Rockies....
The Hater's Guide To The MLB Playoffs
The baseball season gets much stranger as it narrows down in October, which is not a novel observation but is one that is already proving itself out. Before we even recorded this week’s Deadcast, a Wild Card game had been decided in the dead of night on a hit by a backup catcher who was one of the ...
