Mikaela Shiffrin doesn’t have to look too far for a tale of redemption
When Mikaela Shiffrin skied out of her second event at the Winter Olympics on Tuesday night, it was shocking. She’s been the face of U.S. Olympic coverage, including my coverage, and not only did she fail to medal in her first two races, she failed to even finish a run. ...
The biggest NBA bandwagon fan base at the midseason mark
As someone who is loyal to a fault, people who hop team allegiances never cease to make my brain hemorrhage. I don’t know how the LeBron James cult does it. “He’s my favorite player” is what a child says when they first discover what sports are. Yeah, I loved Penny Hardaway, too, but when I moved to...
Hit the road, Novak
No-vax Djokovic is having a hell of a time trying to play in the Australian Open, a Grand Slam he has won a record nine times, because it turns out this pandemic is serious business. He had his visa revoked for a second time and faces deportation because he’s not vaccinated, according to ESPN. He’s ...
Liverpool manager makes the case for not shutting down English Premier League — and he might be onto something
With seemingly every major sports league in “This is fine” mode, the prevailing logic on how to calm the spread of the virus is to take a break to allow the latest variant-induced wave to pass so COVID-ravaged teams don’t have to scramble to fill lineups. English Premier League clubs have been hit s...
Big Ben goes on COVID list, but unlike Q-Aaron, you can believe he’s really vaccinated
We have entered a world where Ben Roethlisberger is the Gallant to Aaron Rodgers’ Goofus....
A salary cap should be exactly what the MLBPA wants (just don’t tell the owners)
The negotiations for a new Major League Baseball collective bargaining agreement promise to be arduous. There are a lot of issues to sort out and a lot of mistrust between the two sides, but on one longstanding bone of contention, there’s a reason for the players to finally give....
WWE and pro wrestling have always needed a union, but will it ever happen?
Talk of unionizing professional wrestling pops up at least once a year, with it usually coming on the heels of another needless round of WWE releases due to “budget cuts” like my colleague Sam Fels wrote about regarding their most recent cuts last week....
Jack Eichel trade return is least of Sabres’ problems
We’ve known for a long time that Jack Eichel was on his way out of Buffalo, and as of Thursday morning, it’s finally happened....
He’s right
One of the major tenets of being a sports fan is the conflict you assume with other fandoms. By choosing your side, you actively take up distaste and antipathy for other sides automatically. The back-and-forth is supposed to be part of the fun/misery. And the way these things work, the way sports ar...

A bunch of Deadspinners sit around Kraken wise
Chris Baud, Jon Hoefling and Jesse Spector got together to talk about the Seattle Kraken expansion draft, in which the team surprised many by not going for big-name players like Carey Price, Gabriel Landeskog, Vladimir Tarasenko or Jakub Voracek. What’s up with that?...
Christian Eriksen to receive heart starter device
Christian Eriksen will receive an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a heart starter device, days after his suffering cardiac arrest in a soccer game. The Danish player collapsed during the team’s opening match against Finland last Saturday in the Euro 2020 tournament....
Hospital where Anthony Rizzo visits sick children calls COVID vaccine ‘personal choice’
If you aren’t in or around the Chicago area, you might not know about the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. A gem of a building located close to Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, Lurie has been the gold standard for treating children with everything from “boo-boos to blood disorders,” as their ...
Deadspin's AEW 'Double Or Nothing' preview
Sadly, for the second straight year, AEW will not run Double Or Nothing in Las Vegas but in Jacksonville, Fla. I say that because I had tickets in 2020, and a Vegas weekend with the great wrestling unwashed sure would hit the spot right about now. Oh well! They say this one will have a full house at...
Wrestlemania Night 2 preview
We gave you Part 1, and now Sam Fels and Bryan Fonseca return with Part 2 of our Wrestlemania preview. Expectations, predictions, observations, and inevitable disappointments (we hope not this time!). Here we go....
We’ve got your Wrestlemania Night 1 preview
It’s the Showcase of the Immortals! And it’s a return to live crowds for wrestling, at least for big-time wrestling. As well as the first time the industry’s biggest show appears on Peacock. So many nuances! Once again, Wrestlemania is split into two nights, and Deadspin wrestling writers Bryan Fons...
