Taking Down The Field Goal Posts: One Loss, My Ass

Kansas State 45, (4) Texas 42. No Colt McCoy, no win, no chance for a national title. That'll ruin your weekend. McCoy was knocked out of the game early, and freshman Jevan Snead, while he wasn't terrible, wasn't good enough to keep up with a career performance from Kansas State quarterback Josh Freeman, either.
Georgia 37, Auburn 15. Georgia went into Jordan-Hare Stadium and abused the once-vaunted Auburn defense, rolling up 446 total yards. Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, and this is new for him, was awesome. 302 total yards, 14-of-20 passing, 1 TD, and no interceptions.
Arizona 24, (8) Cal 20. One-loss Cal became two-loss Cal yesterday, dropping a tough one to Arizona. Cal QB Nate Longshore threw three interceptions in one of those games that Cal just seemed destined to lose. Penalties eliminated a couple of big plays, and turnovers hurt, too. Arizona's now beaten a ranked team in consecutive weeks.
(6) Florida 17, South Carolina 16. One of the few games that didn't have Greg Schiano smiling yesterday. Blocked kicks saved the Gators collective asses as they eked out a one-point win over South Carolina. Cock kicker Ryan Succop lined up for a 47-yarder on the game's last play, but had it blocked by the 6'6" Jarvis Moss, much like an earlier extra-point attempt, which was the reason South Carolina trailed by 1 to begin with. I've always said that college teams, where roster space is unlimited, should find a tall guy who can jump and just keep him around on the roster to try and block kicks. Almost every college basketball team has a 6'8" scrub that never sees the court. Make that guy earn his scholarship.
Ohio State 54, Northwestern 10 and Michigan 34, Indiana 3. So the game of the year remains intact, with both of these teams surviving their letdowns last week, and handling their business this week. It's going to cripple the Hugh Johnson Project next week, because everyone's going to be watching this game, and nothing else... damn you to hell, Lloyd Carr.
The remaining undefeated teams: Ohio State, Michigan, Rutgers, Boise State The remaining one-loss teams: Florida, Notre Dame, USC, Arkansas, West Virginia, Louisville, Wisconsin, Wake Forest
