Tallon Griekspoor rides upset to quarterfinals in Dubai

Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images Tallon Griekspoor rallied to defeat defending champion Ugo Humbert of France 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and reach the quarterfinals at the Dubai Tennis Championships on Wednesday.
The Dutchman hit 13 aces and saved six of seven break choices on his way to the win against the No. 5 seed. He next will meet the No. 1 seed, Russia's Daniil Medvedev, who topped France's Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-4, 6-4. This is the third consecutive quarterfinal appearance for Medvedev in Dubai, where he won in 2023.
Also reaching the quarterfinals on Wednesday were Canada's Felix-Auger-Aliassime, who defeated Nuno Borges of Portugal 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Marin Cilic of Croatia, the former World No. 3, ousted Russia's Alexei Popyrin 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 to set up a match with Auger-Aliassime.
Italians Luca Nardi and Matteo Berrettini also advanced, as did qualifier Quentin Halys of France. Nardi and Halys will face off in the quarterfinals.
