Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images TCU football coach Sonny Dykes agreed to a contract extension on Friday. Terms were not disclosed.
Dykes, 56, previously had been signed through 2028 and drew a salary just over $7 million last season, per USA Today.
The Horned Frogs have won more games (36) than any other Big 12 program since Dykes took over in 2022.
"Competing for national and Big 12 championships requires the right leadership, and Sonny has proven he's that person," athletic director Mike Buddie said. "His track record on the field, his standing in the community, and the decisions he's made to position this program to pursue those goals speak for themselves."
Including his 36-17 record at TCU, Dykes owns an overall mark of 107-80 with stops at Louisiana Tech (2010-12), Cal (2013-16) and SMU (2017-21). His teams are 4-4 in bowl games, including 3-1 at TCU.
"I am appreciative and thankful to Mike Buddie, Chancellor Daniel Pullin, and our administration for their belief and support of our program," Dykes said. "The opportunity to pursue a national championship, the College Football Playoff, and Big 12 championships exists right here in Fort Worth, and my family and I, as well as our entire staff, are excited to continue that pursuit as Horned Frogs."
During his first season in Fort Worth, Dykes guided the Horned Frogs to a Fiesta Bowl win against Michigan before losing to Georgia in the College Football Playoff national championship game. He was named the national Coach of the Year and Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Coming off a 9-4 campaign last season, TCU opens the 2026 campaign against Bill Belichick and North Carolina on Aug. 29 in Dublin, Ireland.
