Team Spirit defeat FUT for CS2 championship at Esports World Cup

Team Spirit pulled out a 3-1 victory over FUT Esports in the grand final of the Counter-Strike 2 playoffs Sunday to conclude the Esports World Cup in Paris.

Spirit took home a $600,000 prize and 1,000 Esports World Cup Club points for first place, the club's second first-place finish during the tournament (also Mobile Legends). The team tied for sixth in the overall standings as AG.AL International won the overall club championship.

Legacy defeated FURIA 2-1 in the third-place match.

Team Spirit's Danil "donk" Kryshkovets of Russia earned tournament MVP honors and received a $25,000 bonus.

FUT Esports opened the grand final with a close 13-10 win on Cache. Spirit took FUT to overtime on each of the next two maps and prevailed each time, 16-13 on Anubis and 16-14 on Ancient. The final map was Nuke, and by then Spirit had all the momentum as they raced to a 13-5 win.

donk led Team Spirit with a match-high 88 kills on a plus-18 kills-to-deaths differential. Ukrainian Dmytro "dem0n" Myroshnychenko had 77 kills to pace FUT.

Legacy dropped their first map to FURIA, 13-9 on Ancient, but rallied to win 13-9 on the next two maps, Nuke and Dust II. Argentina's Santino "try" Rigal was the standout performer for Legacy, collecting 66 kills on a plus-26 K-D.

A double-elimination group stage eliminated half the 32 teams in the $2 million event. The playoffs consisted of best-of-three matches until the grand final, which was best-of-five.

Tournament organizers announced several days in advance that tickets for the final day at Accor Arena were sold out.
