Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Teofimo Lopez became a champion across three different divisions on Saturday after capturing the WBA welterweight title via majority decision over sparring partner Rolando "Rolly" Romero in Las Vegas.
Two judges scored the 12-round bout 115-113 and 116-112 in favor of Lopez (23-2, 13 KOs), while the other had the bout at 114-114.
Lopez, 29, previously earned belts in the light welterweight and lightweight divisions.
The victory was not lost on Lopez, who rebounded after his lopsided decision loss to Shakur Stevenson in their WBO super lightweight title fight in January.
"I've got some work to do," Lopez said after the fight. "But I've got to say, thank you, God. If you lose and you come back, you never lost, because you're a winner. I'm a winner. I'm a true example of what a winner is. ... The scorecards? I could care less, because in the end, I got a victory."
Romero (17-3) returned after a 15-month absence, when he defeated Ryan Garcia for the WBA welterweight belt.
