The 2024 NBA Finals Schedule Is Really Dumb
It’s so dumb that we have to go an entire week without basketball.
Both the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics are just four wins away from being named NBA Champions. But before they can get started on that series, we all have to wait a week.
Some people say that good things come to those who wait. But I don’t want to wait. Basketball fans don’t want to wait.
Game 1 of Mavericks vs. Celtics will tip off on Thursday June 6. Game 2 will be Sunday June 9. If this seems drawn out, that’s because it is. All but one night throughout this series will have a three-day gap spaced out between games without basketball.
If necessary, a Game 7 would not happen until Sunday June 23. That’s just three days before the NBA Draft.
We saw new superstars like Anthony Edwards emerge. We saw teams like the Indiana Pacers overachieve and prove pundits wrong.
But the best storyline this season? You guessed it, we have to wait a week to see it play out. Kyrie Irving vs. the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics, who will have had nearly 10 days off between games, will welcome Irving, their old point guard, back into the hostile environment that is the TD Garden.
It seems like Irving has matured a little bit this season. We’ve heard from him less. And when we do hear from him, he rarely sounds completely crazy like he used to. It feels like he’s grown up before our eyes, embracing this role with the Mavericks and blossomed into a serious weapon instead of a distraction.
Irving was incredible on the court all season long, and it feels like he has that second NBA title completely in reach.
I’ll be sitting here waiting on next week, and you will be too.
