The Broncos Make A Little Move For Jarvis Moss

With the 17th pick in the NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select Jarvis Moss, DL, Florida. Mike Tanier of Football Outsiders tells you all about it.

The Broncos sure have been busy this offseason, signing Dan Graham, Brandon Stokley, Paul Smith, and Quincy Morgan on offense, trading for Dre Bly on defense, and giving the Al Wilson the Steve McNair bum's rush. Now a draft day trade? Who gave Mike Shanahan those overachiever pills? I am starting to miss the old, complacent Broncos who made no changes on offense, got all of their defensive linemen from the Browns, and went 11-5 before losing to the Colts in the playoffs every year.

Moss can give quarterbacks nightmares. Just ask Troy Smith. Smith can't close his eyes without picturing a snarling Moss closing in for the kill. Moss had two sacks and forced a fumble in the national title game. He's an excellent edge rusher who is raw but gifted. The knock on him is his health history: he had a staph infection in 2005, and he has had related problems ever since. The Browns, you will remember, had a problem with staph infections at their practice facility. The Broncos just can't sign a lineman unless he has a Browns connection.
