The End Of Weber State-Sacramento State Was Just Absurd
College basketball already had a hell of a showing Saturday with top-ranked Arizona losing on a last-second shot and Duke forcing overtime against Syracuse with a buzzer-beater, but there was another crazy finish yesterday that didn't feature two perennial programs.
Let's set it up: Weber State's playing at Sacramento State in a Big Sky conference showdown. With seven seconds left in overtime, Weber State, holding a 72-71 lead, gets hit with a double technical foul. Sacramento State's Mikh McKinney makes all four free throws for a 75-72 lead. Weber State's Joel Bolomboy inbounds the ball to Davion Berry, and the clock runs down without a real play being executed. Berry shoots a deep, desperate three that goes in to tie it at 75.
But wait! The clock still has 0.9 seconds left. Sacramento State quickly inbounds the ball, and Dylan Garrity hurls a 75-foot shot to try and avoid a second overtime. As Weber State fans celebrate, Garrity's heave is good for the 78-75 win. The announcer's voice cracks as Sacramento State enacts the tiniest court-storming in recent history.
