Thorpedo Anna wins 150th Kentucky Oaks
Thorpedo Anna won the 150th running of the Kentucky Oaks by four lengths on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs on Friday in Louisville, Ky.
Starting from the No. 5 position, Thorpedo Anna led wire-to-wire for a time of 1:50.83 to win the annual race for 3-year-old fillies the day before the Kentucky Derby. Just F Y I came in second and Regulatory Risk finished third.
The winning horse is named after a Louisville-area swimmer named Anna Thorpe, nicknamed the Thorpedo. Trainer Ken McPeek, a native of Lexington, Ky., earned his first Oaks victory, while Brian Hernandez Jr. was the winning jockey.
Just F Y I was the morning line favorite and made a run down the stretch but could only reach second place. Thorpedo Anna went off at 4-1 odds.
The Kentucky Derby will be run Saturday with a post time of 6:57 p.m. ET. It is expected that the track will be sloppy once again due to ongoing rainstorms in the area.
