The injury occurred in the Commanders' 37-20 Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Forbes made four tackles.
How long he will be out was not disclosed.
The Commanders selected Forbes with the No. 16 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Forbes, 23, made 38 tackles, defended 11 passes and intercepted one pass in 14 games (six starts) in his rookie season.
The Commanders (0-1) host the New York Giants (0-1) on Sunday.
