Tidebound, Xtreme roll on at Dota's The International
Dota 2 competition at the Esports World Cup Xtreme Gaming extended its perfect start in the group stage of The International 2025 by beating the only other undefeated team, Team Tidebound, on Saturday in Hamburg, Germany.
With this victory, Xtreme Gaming is the first-place team in the group stage and earned an automatic berth in the playoffs. Team Tidebound will have another chance on Saturday to grab a win and seal a playoff bid.
Sixteen teams are competing in the prestigious Dota 2 event -- eight invitees and eight teams from regional qualifiers. The group stage employs a Swiss system format in which all matches are best-of-three. The top three teams will head straight to the playoffs, while the fourth through 13th teams will move to a special elimination round to determine the other five playoff teams.
The playoffs will utilize a double-elimination bracket. All matches are best-of-three until the best-of-five grand final on Sept. 14.
The tournament's base prize pool is worth $1.6 million, and it will grow as 30 percent of all supporter bundle sales will be added to the pot. The current pool is more than $2.4 million.
On Saturday, Xtreme Gaming swept Team Tidebound 2-0, winning in 36 minutes on green and 64 minutes on red.
BetBoom Team, PARIVISION and Team Falcons all scored 2-0 victories in Round 4 Saturday to stack behind Xtreme Gaming in the standings at 3-1, along with Team Tidebound.
