This image was lost some time after publication. As if the world doesn't hate us enough already, somebody got the bright idea recently to send Tommy Lasorda to other nations to act as our ambassador. He has just returned from Japan, where he was part of a "delegation" representing us at the World Expo. We know this because Tommy has just recounted the experience in his blog over at MLB Blogs.com. Not surprisingly, there's little journalism here (what is the World Expo? What countries were represented? How is this event significant?). But there's a picture of a guy dressed as Benjamin Franklin, apparently being struck by lightning. And something official looking written on White House stationery.
It's probably hard to type while waving the flag, but Tommy manages: "Our delegation was able to communicate with many other delegations and relate that America continues to stand for freedom, and how we continue to bring democracy to those in need." Of course, he was in Japan, where the American military have had things under control since about 1945. Democracy is currently a little more tenuous in other spots, in case you haven't been reading the papers. Tommy Lasorda's World [MLB Blogs]
