Tristan Peters homers in 5th straight in White Sox win over Rangers

Tristan Peters homered for the fifth straight game and Brenton Doyle added a three-run shot to power the host Chicago White Sox to a 10-4 victory against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.

American League Central-leading Chicago maintained a 2 1/2-game lead on Cleveland atop the division while Texas remained half a game behind Houston for first place in the AL West.

Doyle and Peters -- outfielders who batted sixth and eighth, respectively, in the series finale -- showed plenty of pop for a lineup that produced 15 hits. Peters had three hits compared to two for Doyle, with Doyle driving in four runs and Peters two.

Chicago led 4-2 when Peters continued a surge that helped steer the team to a 4-3 homestand. He drove an 0-1 pitch from Rangers reliever Robby Ahlstrom over the right field wall for a two-run home run, tying a franchise record shared by multiple White Sox, including teammate Munetaka Murakami this season, with his fifth straight game with a home run.

Texas worked two first-inning walks against Chicago right-hander Sean Burke but didn't score as the team made a pair of outs on the basepaths. Burke picked off Corey Seager before Wyatt Langford was caught stealing.

Braden Montgomery put the White Sox ahead against left-hander MacKenzie Gore with an RBI double in the second and scored on Doyle's RBI single one batter later.

Joc Pederson hit a game-tying two-run home run in the Texas third, but Chicago took a 3-2 lead on Miguel Vargas' run-scoring bloop single into short right field in the fourth. Sam Antonacci added a pinch-hit RBI single later in the inning.

Winner Sean Newcomb (2-3) pitched three scoreless innings with two hits allowed and one strikeout. Jonathan Cannon allowed two runs and four hits in a three-inning save.

Gore (7-10) allowed four runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked four against four strikeouts.

Antonacci had two hits and two RBIs for Chicago. Chase Meidroth, Luisangel Acuna and Vargas added two hits apiece.

Ezequiel Duran had two hits and two RBIs for Texas. Langford also had two hits.

Burke remains in search of his first victory since July 19 after spacing two runs and two hits in three-plus innings with eight walks and three strikeouts.

Chicago won the season series 4-2.
