Tundra Esports awaits foe in grand final at ESL One Birmingham
Tundra Esports swept Team Yandex to advance to the grand final on Sunday at the ESL One Birmingham event in England.
Team Yandex, with the loss on Saturday, dropped to the lower-bracket final on Sunday against Xtreme Gaming, which had eliminated PARIVISION on Saturday in the lower-bracket semifinal.
Saturday's other match was in the lower-bracket quarterfinals, with PARIVISION sweeping out Aurora Gaming 2-0.
The $1 million Dota 2 tournament, featuring 16 teams, will award $750,000 in prize money and $250,000 in club rewards as well as 35,460 ESL Pro Tour points spread among all participants.
The competition, part of DreamHack Birmingham, began with a group stage, with teams split into two groups of eight. The top two teams from each group advanced to the upper bracket of the playoffs. The third- and fourth-place teams were delegated to the lower-bracket playoffs, with the remaining eight teams eliminated.
The playoffs continue through Sunday with a double-elimination bracket. All matches are best-of-three except for the grand final, which is best-of-five.
On Saturday, Tundra Esports beat Team Yandex in 44 minutes and 25 minutes, both on red.
Ivan "Pure" Moskalenko of Russia had a 16-0-11 kill-death-assist ratio for Tundra in Game 1, and a 9-0-7 ratio in Game 2.
PARIVISION swept Aurora Gaming in the lower-bracket quarterfinals, winning in 46 minutes and 31 minutes, both on green.
Volodymyr "No(o)ne" Mineko of Ukraine paced PARIVISION with a 14-1-24 K-D-A in Game 1, and he followed with a 12-1-19 ratio on Game 2.
The victory advanced PARIVISION to the lower-bracket semifinal, where Xtreme Gaming captured a 2-1 decision. PARIVISION won the opener in 22 minutes on green, then Xtreme won in 48 and 34 minutes, both on green.
Alan "Satanic" Gallyamov of Russia led PARIVISION in Game 1 with a 9-0-3 K-D-A. Wang "Ame" Chunyu of China paced Xtreme in Game 2 with an 8-0-9 ratio, and a 5-0-12 in Game 3.
