Mandatory Credit: Jesse Johnson-Imagn Images Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton was scratched from the lineup prior to Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins due to right hip flexor soreness.
Buxton initially was listed as the designated hitter in the lead-off position before he was scratched from the series finale in favor of Josh Bell, who will bat fourth in the lineup. The Twins and Marlins split the first two games of the three-game series.
Buxton belted a pair of solo homers in Minnesota's 9-5 loss to Miami on Wednesday. The setback snapped a three-game winning streak for the Twins.
A two-time All-Star, Buxton is batting .260 with a team-leading 15 homers and 23 RBIs in 40 games this season. He has seven home runs and 12 RBIs in 11 games in May.
Buxton, 32, is a career .248 hitter with 183 homers and 459 RBIs in 938 games -- all with the Twins.
