The Twins also called up right-hander Ronny Henriquez and sent catcher Jair Camargo and right-hander Louis Varland to Triple-A St. Paul.
Kepler, 31, missed the last 13 games with a right knee contusion. He played in three rehab games at St. Paul and went 4-for-10 with three walks and three runs. Kepler was 1-for-20 with Minnesota before landing on the IL.
Henriquez, 23, last appeared in the majors when he made his debut with the Twins in 2022. He has a 4.05 ERA with one save and 14 strikeouts in seven relief appearances (13 1/3 innings) this season in Triple-A.
Camargo, 24, made his MLB debut on April 16. He played in two games, going 0-for-5 with one walk and one run.
Varland, 26, is 0-4 with a 9.18 ERA through four starts with the Twins this season. He allowed four runs on three hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings in Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
To make room for Henriquez on the 40-man roster, Minnesota also transferred right-hander Daniel Duarte (elbow) to the 60-day injured list. Duarte will have surgery on May 8 and will not pitch again in 2024.
