Two Of The NFL's Strangest Streaks Say The Chargers Will Be Champs
Let's be quite clear about this up front: We don't believe there's anything to this, any more than there was to the (now broken) streak of Redskins home games predicting the Presidential election. It's, statistical noise. But as far as random quirks go, these are pretty fucking weird.
Dating back to 2009, the team that played the Eagles in Philadelphia's home opener has gone on to win the Super Bowl that season. That's four years in a row, and that's incredible enough. And who, pray tell, did the Eagles play in their first game at the Linc this season? The San Diego Super Chargers, now just three wins from a Lombardi Trophy.
Eerie? It gets eerier. There's another NFC East streak going. Seven seasons in a row, the Redskins have played the eventual Super Bowl champs, and in the last three seasons, Washington has won that game. The 3-13 Redskins beat only one playoff team this year: You guessed it.
Below, our post from right after Super Bowl XLVII, when the Ravens kept both streaks going.
