Two Racehorses Die In Head-On Collision
Harness racing at Flamboro Downs in Ontario was marred last night by a horrible-head collision that required two horses to be euthanized. The video shows the collision just after the one-minute mark; It's not necessarily graphic, but it is disturbing.
A chain reaction in the first turn led to two drivers being ejected from their sulkies, and one horse, Buckbuckbuck Mach, falling. That horse then got to his feet and began running the wrong way on the track without his driver. Despite warning lights, the race continued, and in the final turn Buckbuckbuck Mach collided at full speed with A Sudden Twist.
No drivers were injured, but both horses had to be put down. The race was declared a no-contest. On its website, Standardbred Canada released a statement that read, in part: "Please join Standardbred Canada in sharing condolences with the connections of Buckbuckbuck Mach and A Sudden Twist."
