This isn’t as much of a bet on the Minnesota Vikings as it is fading the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have been one of the luckiest teams in the NFL through three weeks. They enter this game with a 2-1 record, but there’s a very real argument that they should be 0-3.

Pittsburgh was blown out by the Seattle Seahawks, who look like the real deal at this point. They have close wins over the New York Jets and New England Patriots. They have a -1.7 point scoring margin with a winning record, and it hasn’t been because of any blowout wins.

The key here is that the Steelers were arguably outplayed in both of their wins. They lost the total yards, yards per play, first downs, third-down efficiency, and time of possession in both games. They did win the turnover battle twice, though.

The more shocking win came against the Patriots, who lost four fumbles in that game. It’s relatively clear that the Steelers aren’t one of the better teams in the NFL, and it’s only a matter of time before they come back down to Earth.

On the other side, the Vikings have left a lot to be desired. They had only one good quarter with new quarterback J.J. McCarthy, but he’s since been injured. Carson Wentz looked competent in a blowout win over the Cincinnati Bengals last week.

The key for the Vikings is that they only need a competent quarterback to win games with their roster. As long as Wentz isn’t losing the game, they’re going to be in a solid spot because of their defense and offensive playmakers.

Minnesota is also getting healthier. They’ve dealt with several major injuries early in the season, and some key players are starting to return. Jordan Addison is also coming back from suspension, adding more depth to the passing offense.

This is a rare situation where I favor one team nearly everywhere. The Vikings have also found success creating turnovers, but they aren’t a team that fully relies on them. If Pittsburgh isn’t getting their turnovers, they’re likely to struggle to consistently find success with long drives.

I also believe there’s a massive edge in the coaching in this game. Although Mike Tomlin has consistently found success with Pittsburgh, Kevin O’Connell is one of the sharpest minds in the NFL.

If the Vikings can protect the ball in this game, I expect them to find the win in Dublin.
