Wagner names interim coach amid Donald Copeland suspension

Six days before opening its season at VCU, Wagner named Dwan McMillan its interim head coach.

McMillan will lead the Seahawks while head coach Donald Copeland serves a suspension. The New York Post reported last month that Wagner was investigating Copeland for mistreatment and verbal abuse of his players.

Copeland, 41, brought Wagner to its first NCAA Tournament in 21 years in 2024. The Northeast Conference program is 46-45 in three years under Copeland.

Wagner's news release noted that Copeland "remains the head men's basketball coach at Wagner College."

McMillan was a graduate manager at Wagner in 2014-15 and returned as an assistant coach in 2024.
