Melton will undergo more testing as the medical staff works to determine the severity of the injury, the Warriors said Thursday.
Melton hurt the ligament during Tuesday's win over the visiting Dallas Mavericks. He started the past two games for the Warriors, playing 27 and 26 minutes in a pair of wins.
The 26-year-old signed with the Warriors in free agency last summer after playing the past two seasons for the Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 37.1 percent shooting from 3-point range in six games (two starts) for Golden State.
In 356 career games (148 starts) for the Phoenix Suns (2018-19), Grizzlies (2019-22), Sixers (2022-24) and Warriors, Melton has averaged 9.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals. He received votes for NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2021-22.
