Watch A Former German Soccer Player Go Off On The Al-Jazeera Guys In Broken English
Lothar "Loddar" Matthäus had major problems with his Al-Jazeera associates at a UEFA Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in March. Specifically, they'd assigned the translator they promised him to an Italian.
To be fair, he was the captain of the 1990 World Cup winning West Germany side which is to say he knows a thing or two about respect. To be unfair, the German papers totally ripped uber-herr's dialect.
German media was less interested in the rant than in his comical speech. Daily Bild declared the footballer had invented his own language: "Loddar Englisch."
Der Westen newspaper simply asked: "Do you speak Loddar?"
Hamburger Abendblatt noted: "Lothar Matthäus has done it again … he has spoken English."
Matthäus has been a regular match analyst for the Arabic network.
