Welcome, "Kinglandia"! Sports Illustrated Is Giving Peter King His Own Website
Peter King and Sports Illustrated are taking a crack at the Grantland model.
SI is developing a new brand and website with King as the centerpiece, sources told us. The in-house nickname for the new site is Kinglandia. The actual name for the site is still under discussion. (SI, please stick with Kinglandia.)
Unlike Bill Simmons's general-interest Grantland, King's site will be football-only. It'll launch in the next few months, and SI will own it.
The site was surely one of the sweeteners that SI offered King after a recent contract negotiation in which the veteran NFL writer was quite openly thinking about leaving. We're told he'll have his own stable of writers working with him. Here's one name: A source tells us Kinglandia is going hard after The Boston Globe's excellent NFL writer, Greg Bedard. Know more? Drop me a line.
