White Sox end losing streak with home victory vs. Guardians

Munetaka Murakami homered and Tristan Peters and Chase Meidroth each drove in two runs to lift the Chicago White Sox to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Cleveland Guardians.

Chicago starter Anthony Kay (9-5) allowed two runs, scattered six hits, walked one and fanned four. Grant Taylor yielded one hit in a scoreless ninth to earn his sixth save for Chicago, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Rhys Hoskins was 2-of-3 with a two-run home run, Angel Genao added a solo shot and Angel Martinez had two hits for Cleveland.

The White Sox took a 5-2 lead in the sixth. Murakami lined his 26th homer of the season, a one-out solo shot off the left-field foul pole.

Miguel Vargas followed with a single and Colson Montgomery struck out on a check swing. Cleveland starter Gavin Williams was relieved by Colin Holderman (6-3), who was greeted rudely by Chicago.

Holderman hit Andrew Benintendi and Braden Montgomery with pitches to load the bases. Peters' two-run double to left center knocked in Vargas and Benintendi. Meidroth's two-run bloop single down the right field line scored Braden Montgomery and Peters.

The Guardians went to the bullpen again, and Erik Sabrowski retired Drew Romo on a lineout to center.

Earlier, in the top of the sixth, Cleveland took a 2-0 lead. Martinez's cue shot off the end of the bat snuck inside the right-field line for a one-out double before Hoskins launched a two-run homer to left.

Genao's solo homer cut Cleveland's deficit to 5-3 with one out in the seventh. Steven Kwan then singled and Jo Adell doubled to put runners on second and third. Sean Newcomb relieved Jordan Hicks. He wiggled out of the jam when Chase DeLauter struck out looking and Martinez flied out to center.

Braden Montgomery's seeing-eye RBI single extended Chicago's advantage to 6-3 in the eighth.

Williams allowed two runs on three hits, walking two and striking out seven. After giving up a hit in the second, Williams retired nine straight before Peters drew a one-out walk in the fifth.
