White Sox place C Joey Bart, LHP Chris Murphy on IL

The Chicago White Sox placed catcher Joey Bart and left-hander Chris Murphy on the injured list ahead of Friday's series opener against the visiting Cleveland Guardians.

The White Sox entered the weekend in first place in the American League Central, three games ahead of the Guardians and Minnesota Twins.

Bart landed on the 10-day IL with a fifth metacarpal fracture in his left (non-throwing) hand. He was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning Thursday at Boston.

Bart, 29, has appeared in three games since Chicago acquired him from Atlanta on Monday. He is 0-for-6 with four strikeouts and one walk. The seven-year veteran started his career with the San Francisco Giants (2020-23), then moved onto Pittsburgh (2024-26) for parts of three seasons before playing in 20 gamees with the Braves.

Murphy went on the 15-day IL with a left flexor strain. The 28-year-old reliever is 3-0 with one save and a 4.20 ERA in 29 games (two starts) this season. Murphy was a member of the Boston Red Sox in 2023 and 2025.

In corresponding transactions, the White Sox recalled catcher Edgar Quero and right-hander David Sandlin from Triple-A Charlotte. Quero played in 111 games for the White Sox last season, hitting .268 with five home runs and 36 RBIs. He was on the 2026 Opening Day roster and appeared in 61 games, hitting .194 with a pair of homers and 16 RBIs.

Sandlin was 2-1 with a 6.05 ERA in four games during two previous call-ups to Chicago in May and June.
