Rebilas-Imagn Images Chicago White Sox right-hander Mike Vasil will have Tommy John surgery in the coming weeks, the team announced Tuesday.
Vasil, who turns 26 on Thursday, will miss the entire 2026 season.
He departed Saturday's preseason game with right elbow soreness after throwing 3 2/3 scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing two hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Vasil made his major league debut last season and finished 5-3 with a 2.50 ERA in 47 games (three starts) for the White Sox, striking out 82 batters and walking 52 in 101 innings. He added four saves.
The New York Mets drafted Vasil in the eighth round in 2021 out of Virginia. Chicago selected him off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays last March.
