White Sox's Mike Clevinger to make season debut with start at Rays
The Chicago White Sox recalled starting pitcher Mike Clevinger, who will make his season debut on Monday night in a series opener at Tampa Bay.
The right-hander, who had re-signed with the White Sox on a one-year, $3 million contact on April 4, was pitching for Triple-A Charlotte. He allowed three runs, 10 hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings for a 3.68 ERA over two starts.
Clevinger, 33, played his first season with Chicago in 2023, when he was 9-9 with a 3.77 ERA, 40 walks, 110 strikeouts and two complete games over 24 starts (131 1/3 innings). He led the team in wins and paced their starters in ERA.
In a corresponding move, the White Sox placed right-hander Dominic Leone on the 15-day injured list with lower back tightness. The move is retroactive to Sunday.
Leone, 32, is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA, 11 walks and 14 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings over 17 relief appearances.
