WNBA Best Bets Today: Atlanta Dream vs. Connecticut Sun Odds and Picks

The WNBA playoff field became set last night with the Seattle Storm taking ownership of the No. 8 seed, giving them a date with the Minnesota Lynx in the first round. But before we can get to that, the regular season has to play out.

There is just one game on the schedule tonight, the playoff-bound Atlanta Dream taking on the Connecticut Sun in Uncasville, CT. The following are our best bets for this game with odds from FanDuel.

Atlanta technically still has something to play for — the No. 2 seed in the postseason over being the No. 3 seed. Either way, they are the host team in the first round. It could matter in the second round, but is it worth risking injury by playing people in an otherwise meaningless game?

Probably not. They just handled the Sun on Monday at home, winning 87-62, with key players like Brionna Jones and Alisha Gray logging only 20 minutes. So, in theory, they may not need to play Jones and Gray at all to beat the Sun.

However, while the Dream may not be playing to win, the Sun will be. That’s not to say they will win, but they’ll be more competitive and stay within ten.

Naz Hillmon, to score 10+ points at -125

Games like this are made for the primary backups and role players to have their moment in the sun (no pun intended). Hillmon is averaging 8.7 points per game this season. She scored in double digits in 20 of 43 games and in three of her last four.

Two of those four were against the Sun (she scored 14 and 17). She’ll get at least ten today.

For teams that have been eliminated, games like this mean the most to young players, especially rookies like Morrow. For her, it’s another chance to get some experience at the pro level and improve her game. She seems to be taking that to heart in the last two games.

Against Phoenix last Saturday, she played for 22 minutes and pulled down 13 boards to go with nine points. In Monday’s loss to Atlanta, she played for 31 minutes and recorded a double-double, 13 points and 14 rebounds.

It may be wishful thinking to bet on her recording another double-double. But it looks like she will get some playing time, maybe even another 30+ minute day. She averaged 7.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in 18.6 minutes.

With 30+ minutes on the court against a Dream team, looking towards the playoffs? Yeah, she’ll get at least 10 points and rebounds tonight.
