World No. 2 Jannik Sinner (hip) withdraws from Italian Open
World No. 2 Jannik Sinner withdrew from his home country's Internazionali BNL d'Italia on Saturday, citing a hip injury.
The tournament begins Wednesday.
"It is not easy to write this message but after speaking again with the doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome," read a translation of the message Sinner posted on social media in Italian. "Obviously I'm very sad that I didn't recover, it being one of my favorite tournaments ever. I couldn't wait to come back and play at home in front of the Italian crowd."
Non è facile scrivere questo messaggio ma dopo aver parlato di nuovo con i medici e gli specialisti dei miei problemi all'anca devo annunciare che putroppo non potrò giocare a Roma.

On Wednesday, Sinner was forced to withdraw from the Mutua Madrid Open because of his hip. The top seed in Spain, Sinner had been scheduled to play Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in a quarterfinal match on Thursday.
Sinner, 22, won the Australian Open in January and entered the Madrid tournament with a 25-2 record on the season. He also has wins in Rotterdam and Miami in 2024.
Sinner said he intends to "work with my team and doctors to be ready for Roland Garros."
On Friday, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz -- the World No. 3 -- announced he'd be sitting out the Rome tournament because of an arm injury.
The tournaments in Madrid and Rome are Masters 1000 events and clay-court tune-ups for the French Open, which begins May 26 in Paris.
Daniil Medvedev of Russia is the reigning champion in Rome.
