Mandatory Credit: David Gonzales-Imagn Images Wrexham granted Elliot Lee's request with Monday's announcement that the midfielder has been loaned to League One's Doncaster Rovers for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
Lee, 31, was an integral part of Wrexham's record-setting three consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship, scoring 41 goals while appearing in 149 games. However, he appeared in only three EFL Cup games and none in the Championship this season following the offseason signings of Nathan Broadhead and Josh Windass.
A November knee injury that required surgery sidelined Lee for two months. Upon his return to training last month, manager Phil Parkinson said the club would "respect" Lee's desire to explore options during the transfer window.
"I'm really pleased," Doncaster manager Grant McCann said in a statement. "We've been chasing Elliot all month and we had to be patient but we've got it done.
"Elliot is a top player at this level. He's been instrumental in Wrexham's rise up the divisions and the triple promotions, playing a huge part, scoring important goals.
"It's an excellent signing for the football club and he'll bring plenty to us."
Lee began his career with West Ham United and played for several clubs before moving to Championship side Barnsley in 2016. He eventually joined Wrexham as a free agent in July 2022 and is under contract through the summer of 2027.
"I'm delighted to get it over the line," Lee said. "There's been a lot of talk over January and I've been in contact with a few clubs and spoke to a few managers but after speaking to the gaffer this is where I want to come and play football so I'm really excited."
