WTA roundup: Alycia Parks shown early exit in Guadalajara

Darja Vidmanova of the Czech Republic won 23 of her 31 first-service points en route to an upset of No. 7 seed Alycia Parks in the first round of the Guadalajara Open Akron on Monday in Mexico.

Parks had seven aces but hurt herself with 10 double faults. Vidmanova will face countrywoman Nikola Bartunkova in the next round of the WTA 500 event, as Bartunkova defeated Italy's Nicole Fossa Huergo 6-4, 6-2. Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva of Andorra was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Elena Pridankina of Russia.

Three matches remained in the night session in Guadalajara, including Maria Sakkari of Greece against Elsa Jacquemot of France for the right to face top seed Elise Mertens of Belgium.


SP Open

Janice Tjen of Indonesia sailed past French seventh seed Leolia Jeanjean 6-2, 6-3 in first-round action in Sao Paulo.

Tjen's next opponent will be Slovakia's Martina Okalova, a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Australian Arina Rodionova. Another Australian, No. 4 seed Ajla Tomljanovic, retired down 6-4, 4-2 to Mexico's Victoria Rodriguez, while No. 2 seed Solana Sierra of Argentina survived and advanced 7-6 (4), 6-3, over Dutch opponent Arianne Hartono.

Other winners were Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah of France, 15-year-old Nauhany Vitoria Leme da Silva of Brazil and Julia Riera of Argentina. The final match was still in progress, pitting Whitney Osuigwe against Brazilian 15-year-old Victoria Luiza Barros.
