Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images One of the hottest players on the WTA Tour continued to roll along on Sunday as top-seeded Jessica Pegula defeated fellow American Sofia Kenin 6-3, 7-5 to win the Charleston Open in Charleston, S.C.
The title is Pegula's second of the season (she also lost in the finals of the Miami Open to World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in March) and improved her record to 17-2 in her last four events.
After breaking Kenin's serve three times in the first set, the 31-year-old Pegula struggled mightily to open the second set -- dropping three straight service games to fall behind 4-1. But after surviving three break and set points to make it 5-2 in favor of the 26-year-old Kenin, Pegula broke serve three straight games while holding her own each time to take the second set.
The title is Pegula's eighth of her career, but her first on clay.

Second-seeded Camila Osorio continued her dominance in her native Colombia, defeating Katarzyna Kawa of Poland 6-3, 6-3 in Bogota for her third career tournament title.
All three of the 23-year-old Osorio's titles have come at this clay-court event, as she also won in 2021 and 2024.
Kawa, 32, was playing in her second career final and looking for her first career championship. She lost to Anastasija Sevastova 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the final of the 2019 Baltic Open in Jurmala, Latvia.
Kawa fell behind immediately Sunday, losing each of her first two service games. She broke Osorio to climb back to within 2-1 but lost the next two games and never got close. Osorio saved 6 of 8 break points for the match and won 25 of 35 first-service points (71.4 percent).
