Yankees claim reliever John Schreiber off waivers

The New York Yankees added bullpen depth and claimed reliever John Schreiber off waivers from the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

The 32-year-old right-hander was 1-3 with one save and a 3.65 ERA in 55 relief appearances this season before being placed on waivers over the weekend. He has limited right-handed batters to a .143/.184/.231 slash line.

Schreiber is 16-15 with 13 saves and a 3.65 ERA in 327 career games (two starts) with the Detroit Tigers (2019-20), Boston Red Sox (2021-23) and Royals.

Schreiber is playing this season on a one-year deal worth $3.715 million, according to Spotrac.

The Yankees also announced that right-hander Justin Topa, 35, elected free agency in lieu of accepting an outright assignment to the minor leagues.
