New York Yankees right-hander Cam Schlittler has opted against pitching in Tuesday's All-Star Game, manager Aaron Boone said on Sunday.

Boone told reporters that the healthy Schlittler expressed apprehension about pitching on his throw day, and that he wants to rest up for the second half of the season.

The Yankees' ace tossed 6 2/3 innings in New York's 4-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday.

Schlittler, 25, is 9-5 with an American League-best 2.05 ERA in 20 appearances (all starts) this season. His 137 strikeouts trail only Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Cease for most in the AL.

He has thrown 118 2/3 innings this season, which puts him on pace to outstrip the career-high 149 2/3 innings he logged last year between the Yankees, Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset.
