Yoan Moncada's blast helps Angels extend Athletics' skid

Yoan Moncada hit a three-run homer and Logan O'Hoppe also went deep and had two RBIs to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 7-5 victory over the struggling Athletics on Tuesday night at West Sacramento, Calif.

O'Hoppe delivered the tiebreaking single in a four-run fifth inning to help the Angels win a season-best fifth straight game. O'Hoppe, Moncada and Taylor Ward each had two hits for Los Angeles, which has won the first two games of the four-game series between American League West rivals.

Shea Langeliers and Nick Kurtz homered for the Athletics, who saw their season-worst losing streak reach seven games. They have lost 11 of their past 13 contests.

A's standout shortstop Jacob Wilson exited after 4 1/2 innings due to a left forearm contusion. He was hit by a pitch from Angels starter Kyle Hendricks in the third.

Hendricks (2-5) gave up four runs and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked none.

Kenley Jansen allowed Seth Brown's pinch-hit RBI single with two outs in the ninth before striking out Tyler Soderstrom to end the game for the second straight night. It was Jansen's 10th save of the season.

The Athletics' Gunnar Hogland (1-2) was charged with five runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked two.

The Angels trailed by three entering the fifth.

Luis Rengifo singled to end a 12-pitch at-bat and Kyren Paris walked before Hoglund retired the next two batters. Moncada then smacked a 2-0 fastball deep into the trees beyond the right field wall. The 439-foot blast tied the score at 4.

Ward followed with a double to left. Justin Sterner replaced Hoglund, and O'Hoppe greeted him with a single to give the Angels a 5-4 edge.

Los Angeles tacked on two runs in the ninth off Anthony Maldonado. Paris singled and stole second before Neto lined a double to left to make it 6-4. Nolan Schanuel was intentionally walked and Moncada hit a bloop single to load the bases.

Ward dropped a ball into shallow right to score Neto, but Moncada was forced out at second for a fielder's choice.

The Athletics took a 1-0 lead on second-inning singles by Langeliers, Kurtz and Luis Urias, the latter driving in the run.

Los Angeles knotted the score with two outs in the fourth on O'Hoppe's blast to left.

The A's played long ball in the fourth. Langeliers led off the inning with a homer to center. Miguel Andujar followed with a double before Kurtz went the opposite-way for a two-run shot to left to give the Athletics a 4-1 lead.
