I was going to make a joke about tax dollars at work, but since these are Indiana schools, the citizens would probably wonder why more research money isn't being poured into projects like this.
I don't need studies like these. If I've learned anything from the greatest sports video game of all time, NBA Jam, it's that we don't need referees to have an entertaining and close basketball game.
the problem i have with this is all these guys have been refing for decades and stern has been commish for over 20 years..am i supposed to believe all this cheating just started over the last few years? i mean if kobe gets star treatment doesnt mean that jordan and all the other super stars over the past couple decades getting the same perks?
It's like knowing in your gut your spouse is cheating but you look the other way until you have the proof. Hello Proof! Raja Bell - vindicated. And the clothesline on Kobe? You can put part of tthe blame on the refs for that one. #timdonaghy
How many people serve prison sentences of 1-2 years for fraud that don't have an accomplice? Exactly. It takes more than just one guy to pull off what Donaghy was able to. Donaghy was the scapegoat...
Its amazing to think that there are people that believe the game isn't rigged. Look at the game when Kobie cracked Bibby on the mouth with his elbow. then look at how he cracked Orlandos Magic point guard in the mouth at almost the Identical spots and no foul was called on Kobe even though it was obvious. Remember there were College players busted for fixing games so don't fool yourself into believing that it can't happen in the nba. Donaghy can't be making this up. He gives detailed insight on what happened in specific games. If it wasn't true , the nba would be able to disprove it by researching all the games he is talking about and say look its not true.
Gambling by Professional Athletes , Coaches , And Referees is not that uncommon !!
In December of 1999 Arnie Wexler, a compulsive-gamblers counselor, went to the National Basketball Association office in Manhattan and met with league officials, players and union officials, concerned about players' gambling. He recalled being told, "We have a problem, and we're trying to find out how bad the problem is" Wexler, a resident of Bradley Beach and former executive director of the New Jersey Council on Compulsive Gambling, was told to keep his calender open from January through March, to allow him to address every team in the league.
When he didn't hear from the NBA in a few weeks he called and asked, "When do we start?"
You don't, he was told. "They said, "The higher ups didn't want the media to find out.' "
The refs can't control the total outcome of a game, but I've known for years that they partially influenced the outcome of certain games and situations. I refuse to watch professional sports unless it's baseball because the only real cheating that can go on is squeezing pitchers (and steroids), but mostly a strike is a strike. Anytime you put together millions of dollars and egos, something foul is going to occur. The NBA is a joke and professional football is not far behind. Why would this guy make this crap up and risks lawsuits, not only from league but from all the names he dropped? I believe it. People called Canseco a liar to, but once the smoke cleared, he was dead on.
2002 Kings/Lakers was fixed and everyone knew it, Kobe shoved Bibby with two hands in his back on an in-bounds play where the ball bounce right to Kobe for an easy bucket late in the game. That was just one of a dozen or so the Lakers got that game, it was a shame too, the Sacramento team was more fun to watch (in my eyes as a Bulls fan). I did not even watch the finals that year.

I love you Tommy, but no one believes this. Not every study like this is meant to counterattack some fictional bogeyman.
