The Yankees had selected Ort, 33, off waivers from the Houston Astros on Jan. 9.
Ort made a career-high 49 relief appearances for the Astros last season, going 2-2 with one save, a 4.89 ERA, 27 walks and 49 strikeouts in 46 innings. He finished 17 games.
For his career, Ort is 5-7 with two saves, a 5.00 ERA, 56 walks and 126 strikeouts in 122 1/3 innings over 118 games (two starts) with the Boston Red Sox (2021-23) and Astros (2024-25).
Ort previously signed as a free agent with the Yankees in May of 2017 but he never made it to the major leagues before Boston picked him out of New York's organization in the 2020 Rule 5 Draft.
The well-traveled reliever also has spent time in the Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners, Miami Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles organizations.
