The 25-year-old thrived in the Dodgers' minor league system in 2024, posting a combined 3.19 ERA in 32 games. However, Double-A was still the highest level that he had pitched before this season.
The Angels rolled the dice on the young prospect and gave him his first major league experience in March. In 10 games, McDaniels posted a 5.91 ERA over 10 2/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs, 13 hits and eight walks while striking out six.
McDaniels landed on the injured list with a biceps injury in May. On Monday, the Angels activated him and designated him for assignment.
As a Rule 5 pick, he was required to be offered back to the Dodgers for $50,000 if he went unclaimed.
