August 20th MLB Home Run Betting Picks: Top HR Prop Bets for Wednesday

It’s another getaway Wednesday in the long MLB season, and that means day baseball. The best way to get through hump day is by betting on home run props.

There isn’t enough data to prove more homers happen during day games, but with warmer air helping the ball travel farther, it’s worth taking some swings on Wednesday’s slate.

Here are three top home run prop picks for Aug. 20 (odds via FanDuel unless noted).

Shea Langeliers HR (+295)

The first pick isn’t in a day game, but it’s still worth a play. Twins starter Bailey Ober has been one of the league’s most home run-prone pitchers, giving up 24 this season — sixth most in MLB.

Nick Kurtz (+245) would be the obvious pick from this matchup, but his odds have become too short. Langeliers has quietly put together a strong season with an .827 OPS against righties and continues to be a key piece at the top of Oakland’s lineup.

This is mostly a fade of Ober, and Langeliers has the power to make him pay.

Julio Rodríguez HR (+450)

Rodríguez is locked in at the plate, slashing .333/.379/.667 with four home runs over his last 15 games. For the second straight season, he’s heating up after the All-Star break and reminding everyone why he’s one of baseball’s most electric outfielders.

The Mariners star has been far better against left-handed pitching this year, with an OPS nearly 80 points higher. That bodes well against Phillies starter Jesús Luzardo, who has allowed all 13 of his home runs this season to right-handed hitters.

With plus-money this high, Rodríguez offers value to go deep again.

José Altuve HR (+550)

In a matchup against his former manager, AJ Hinch, Altuve carries plenty of value at this price.

The Astros second baseman has hit most of his homers against righties this season, and he faces Charlie Morton, who ranks among the top 40 pitchers in home runs allowed. Morton has looked sharper since being traded from Baltimore to Detroit, but Houston’s lineup presents a tougher challenge.

At +550, the number is simply too good to pass up on Altuve.
