Big 12 tournament roundup: 12th seed Kansas State extends Cinderella run
Kansas State Wildcats guard Tess Heal (34) defends the ball against Oklahoma State Cowgirls during the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Tournament inside T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri, on Friday, March 6, 2026. Tess Heal split two free throws with 1.3 seconds left and No. 12 seed Kansas State impressively rallied for the second straight day while recording a 74-73 victory over fourth-seeded Oklahoma State in the Big 12 women's tournament quarterfinals Friday at Kansas City, Mo.
Jordan Speiser made five 3-pointers while scoring a career-best 21 points for the Wildcats (18-16), who became the lowest seed in tournament history to reach the semifinals, where they will meet top-seeded TCU on Saturday. Nastja Claessens added 15 points for Kansas State, which used a late 9-0 burst to set up the victory one day after scoring the game's final 21 points in an upset victory over fifth-seeded Texas Tech.
Oklahoma State's Haleigh Timmer buried a 3-pointer with 4.5 seconds to tie the score. Teammate Stailee Heard then fouled Heal in the backcourt, approximately 70 feet from the basket, and Heal sank the first before intentionally missing the second and preventing the Cowboys from getting off one last shot.
Heard recorded 18 points and eight rebounds and Jadyn Wooten had 16 points for Oklahoma State (23-9). Timmer had 13 points and Amari Whiting added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
No. 10 TCU 63, BYU 46
Marta Suarez had 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals and Taylor Bigby added 13 points to help the Horned Frogs register a wire-to-wire win over the ninth-seeded Cougars.
Olivia Miles contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for TCU (28-4), which made 17 of 18 free-throw attempts. The Horned Frogs had nine blocked shots and eight steals and led by as many as 20 points.
Delaney Gibb recorded 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists but was just 6-of-22 shooting for BYU (22-11). The Cougars shot just 27% from the field and were 5 of 28 from 3-point range.
